The Montana Conservationist April 17

Greetings readers! We have a great issue of TMC (and very few jokes, this long spring is wearing me out) for you this week:

  • BEEF Magazine gets in on the soil health movement with a great article explaining the basic concepts fo soil health, and why it’s so important for beef producers.
  • A dry summer and a very long, very snowy winter have compounded to create a shortage of hay and straw for livestock across the state.
  • From Water Deeply: The state of Idaho is working to replenish the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer, a resource that has been overtapped for decades. Now that effort is showing some signs of success.
  • The Billings Gazette writes that this spring’s flooding (it must be coming, it must be coming) is beneficial to some prairie river species.
  • DNRC has taken an inventory of urban forests across the state, and tallied the benefits and values of the trees in the sidewalk.
  • NRCS is now accepting applications from agricultural producers for financial assistance for conservation practices through the Upper Clark Fork Drought Resiliency Project

Find it all in the April 17 issue of The Montana Conservationist: TMC 2018-04-17
